There is much aid devoted to development in Africa. There is little attention given though, to the environmental costs of such development. Haileybury Youth Trust [HYT] is different. Using a remarkable and sustainable construction technology, the Interlocking Stabilised Soil Block, HYT alleviates poverty and provides opportunity, while preserving the beautiful Ugandan landscape.

HYT works with Ugandan communities to improve lives by meeting humanitarian needs, such as housing, education and access to clean water. We do so, however, in a way that preserves Uganda's fragile environment rather than damages it. HYT is a small charity that works in a part of Uganda it knows well, with trusted and long-standing partners. HYT also provides training programmes and encourages community participation, often with and through schools.

By training young people, using other young people as peer educators, HYT is empowering the next generation of Ugandans. We believe in the power of youth to improve lives.
