OUR FUTURE

'One Village at a Time' - our five year commitment to improving lives

Over the next five years, Haileyburians and Ugandans will work closely with ten villages, 'One Village at a Time.'

By living and working in a village for several months, we will establish a relationship with the community, making a greater and more sustainable impact.

In partnership with each community, and with your help, we will:

• install water tanks which will provide access to clean water for children and their schools
• build classrooms for an ever-increasing number of children
• provide a kitchen so pupils can eat at lunchtime
• construct a school science laboratory

In addition to this HYT intends to:

• train communities in business and income-generating skills
• work with teachers in teaching children the benefits of sustainable development
• support the ongoing adoption of appropriate technologies

Kaskaso - The First Village!

Kaskaso, (where the school is known as 3 R's, for reading, 'riting and 'rithmatic!) is a very poor community near Lake Victoria, without fresh water or electricity. HYT has already established a good relationship with village leaders, who are enthusiastic and eager to join HYT in improving lives.

• Plans have been drawn up; the villagers have provided a labour force and John Kaweesa, the local Headmaster, has expressed delight at being able to work with HYT in enhancing the quality of education and life in his community
• OH volunteers in Uganda are already planning workshops, training programmes and school-based activities, as well as preparing for an exciting building project
